چکیده

NEtwork MObility Basic Support (NEMO BS) protocol has been investigated to provide Internet connectivity of a group of nodes, which is suitable for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications. Since NEMO BS is based on Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), it often increases traffic load and handover latency due to the handover procedure. Thus, schemes combining Proxy MIPv6 (PMIPv6) with NEMO (PNEMO) have emerged to solve these problems. However, they still suffer from packet loss and long handover latency during the handover. To prevent packet loss and reduce the handover latency, Fast P-NEMO (FP-NEMO) has emerged. Although FPNEMO accelerates the handover procedure through tunneling, it may cause a serious burden of the tunnel between Mobile Access Gateways (MAGs). This is because all packets destined for Mobile Network Nodes (MNNs) are forwarded to a New MAG (NMAG) through the tunnel between MAGs. This problem becomes more critical, as the number of MNNs is large and there exists heavy traffic between MAGs. Therefore, we propose a scheme Improving FP-NEMO (IFP-NEMO) to eliminate that tunneling burden. IFP-NEMO performs the registration prior to the layer 2 handover. When the registration is completed, packets are forwarded to the NMAG directly, so that the tunnel between MAGs is not used during the handover. IFP-NEMO is analyzed and compared with FP-NEMO through performance evaluations. We show that IFP-NEMO outperforms FP-NEMO in numerical results.

PM2PLS: An Integration of Proxy Mobile IPv6 and MPLS

This paper proposes a handover scheme supporting MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) in a Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) domain that improves the mobility and gives Quality of Service (QoS) and Traffic Engineering (TE) capabilities in wireless access networks. The proposed scheme takes advantages of both PMIPv6 and MPLS. PMIPv6 was designed to provide NETwork-based Localized Mobility Management (N...

The Backward Fast Media Independent Handover for Proxy Mobile IPv6 Control Scheme (BFMIH-PMIPV6) over Heterogeneous Wireless Mobile Networks

Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is a networked-based handover protocol for the IP layer, i.e., the layer 3 mobility management protocol. In this work, we integrated fast handover and IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) Services with PMIPv6 to improve the handover performance over the heterogeneous wireless network environment. Since the handover performance of the predictive mode is better ...

Distributed Data Path and Mobility Function Scheme for PMIPv6 in Flattened Networks

Proxy Mobile IPv6 is a most promising mobility management solution to pave a way toward all IP-based networks for the next generation networks. Many researchers are paying attention to PMIPv6 because of its network-based mobility feature. However, PMIPv6 relies on centralized and hierarchical mobility management approach that make it difficult to break away from problems such as single point of...

Optimized Fast Handover using TBU Scheme for PMIPv6 Based Network Mobility

The Internet Engineering Task Force proposed a host-based mobility management protocol, called Mobile IPv6 for mobile nodes to maintain continuous service when they move to a foreign network but causes long disruptions during handover. Hence a new scheme is proposed based on PMIPv6 and EfNEMO to mitigate packet loss, signaling problem and handover latency. This scheme ensures that the MN mainta...
